In D5, I used to be able to set the color of a panel and that would be color
of the panel.

In D2007, the color properties do not work.

With Labels, I found that I had to turn off Transparency and then the
colors worked ok.

What is the fix for panels and check boxes?

It does work if you set the ParentBackground property of the panel to
false.

D2007 supports Windows themes and has them enabled by default. This
makes panels basically transparent. D5 did not even know how to spell
"theme" <g>.
