(too old to reply)

Hello,

I searched for "Textrect" in the Delphi 2007 help.
It took 5 minutes before the Microsoft Document Explorer came with the
results.
Is there a faster method to search for information ?

Thanks,

Did you do a full text search (in the right-hand pane of the Document
Explorer)? Try the index first, it is much faster. 5 minutes are a bit
extreme even for a full text search, however. How much RAM does your PC
have?

Hello Peter,

I have an HP XW4400 with 2 GB RAM. I bought a new PC in August,
especially for Delphi 2007.
The Microsoft Document Explorer was frozen for more than 5 minutes.
I used the search tab of the right upper panel.

Because the F1 button on a Delphi/Pascal command does not work, I tried
to use this search tab.
In the Index panel on the left side, there is no result when looking for
"TextRect". The only method to find "textrect" here, is typing the word
"TCanvas".

Yes, that is a problem with the current helpfile: the index is missing
many of the properties and methods as individual entries you can find
without knowing which class they belong to. You certainly have adequate
hardware, so I don't understand why it takes so long for you. I just
tried it on my system and it took about 3 seconds, regardless of
whether I had set a filter or not.

Oh, there is one setting in Document Explorer that has a very drastic
influence on search speed: if you don't change it the damn thing will
try to search online resources before it searches the local helpfile!
Call up the Extras->Options dialog, select the "online" node, then use
the radiobuttons on the top left to tell it to only search the local
content.

The coming help update should improve this.

Have a look and let us know:

To Install:
1. Download
http://installers.codegear.com/update/radstudio/5.2/helpupdate1/HelpSetu
p.exe
to a folder like c:\temp
2. Run HelpSetup.exe /upgrade

I always said that this is one of the best features of RAD Studio 2007 -
the ability to upgrade the help without touching the product itself!!
