Very slow IDE

Hello,

I'm using Rad Studio 2007 in a Core Duo 2 GHZ with 2 GB RAM, Windows Vita Home Premium.

I've upgraded from D6 some months ago and i've noticed that the new IDE is very slow. Everything i do, even just coding, the IDE frequently 'freezes' for about 5 seconds and start to response again after this freezing. I've noticed that when it freezes, CPU goes to 80 or 90%.

Even if i have only the project opened but are using another application, BDS.EXE keeps using about 40% of my CPU.

Is there anything i can do to run Rad Studio faster ? Maybe disabling some features, like code completion and stuff ? What feature is more cpu-hungry ?

Thanks.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply, i will do what you suggested. Problem is these QC reports can take months to get proper attention, and i need to improve performance right now, as the slow speed of the IDE is causing my own work to be slow as well.

Thanks

In the meantime, I suggest that you look here:

Hello,

Thanks for the directions. Tried Speedup but with no noticed gain. Will keep researching.

I think i have bad lucky about this new version of Delphi. I've been using D6 for years flawlessly and since i upgraded to RS2007, i have so much problems that i'm even considering to downgrade. Examples :

1 - Very , very slow IDE
2 - Component names disappear after first compile
3 - Components simply diappear after some compiles, and the only way to access them is in object inspector
4- Key violation bug on TClientDataSet (lot of QC entries, but will not be solved to keep 'retro-compatibility')
5 - Screen flashes fast when compiling a project
6 - CPU goes to 100% after closing a project ; only way to close RS is killing the process
7 - Help system ridiculously slow ; try to hit F1 with the cursor in a function.
8 - Class TIBClientDataSet missed ; i had to rewrite a lot of code in my projects.

And another bizarre behaviours.

Every time a new update is released, i download and apply it, waiting for the problems to be solved. But until now, no problem was solved ; actually, i see no improvements about these problems.

So let's keep waiting...

Viana,

I have one more suggestion. I recommend that you re-post your last
description of problems into the borland.public.delphi.ide.general group.
